Bio

Serendipity and a passion for music conspired to bring two young and successful songwriters together, James Struthers and Kate Morgan.

James Struthers, a Winnipeg born singer/songwriter has toured Canada five times, selling out legendary Canadian venues like The Media Club, (Vancouver), The Minstrel Café (Kelowna), The Exchange Club (Regina), The Park Theatre & The Pyramid Cabaret (Winnipeg), The London Music Club (London), and C’est What (Toronto). He’s also released two EPs and had a song placed in E-Network’s Keeping Up With The Kardashians. As a gifted songwriter and guitarist with a soulful voice, combined with intense DIY work ethic, it’s no surprise that James caught the attention of a management/production team responsible for the careers of some of Winnipeg’s highest profile breakout artists including Inward Eye (RCA), Ash Koley (Nettwerk) & Remy Shand (Universal/Motown).

Kate Morgan has music in her blood.  Choir, voice, piano and band classes combined with songwriting skills, performance experience and sheer determination led to Kate becoming the youngest performer to ever play Lilith Fair.  She has shared the stage with the likes of Sarah McLachlin, Cheryl Crow, Erica Badu, K’Naan and The Sheepdogs. Not only is Kate a natural performer, her songwriting ability has led her co-write with some of Canada’s best songwriting talent, young and old including Bill Henderson (Chilliwack), Jeff Johnson, Jesse Wainwright (State of Shock), Juno nominated Carly Rae Jepsen, Jeff Dawson, Dave Genn (54-40) Dane Deviller  and Juno Award Producer Of The Year Brian Howes.

It didn’t take long for James and Kate to go from complete strangers to the best of friends. In fact, they were only four-day friends when they decided Kate would join James on the rest of his 2011 Coast-to-Coast Tour… living out of James’ station wagon. They share an undeniable passion for music and songwriting, childish things like Smurfs and transformers, neither has a favorite color, and they both have chicken-pox scars in the same place (just above their left eye). It must have been written in the stars… Their music is quirky, playful and fun, but threatens to be serious, and their chemistry on stage and behind a camera is undeniable. In a world full of pretense, James and Kate bring a sense of realism to their craft that has captured the hearts of listeners across the country, and it won’t be long till they’ve done the same with the rest of the world.
